Statement about ownership of CHANDAMAMA(Telugu Rule 8 (Form VI), Newspapers (Central) Rules,
Shri B. VENKATRAMA REDDY
Shri B. NARESH REDDY
Shri B. SANJAY REDDY
Shri B. V. SHARATH REDDY
Smt. B. PADMAVATHI
Shri B. N. RAJESH REDDY
Smt. B. VASUNDHARA
Kum. B.L. ARCHANA
Kum. B.L. ARADHANA
(Minors admitted to the benefits of Partnership).
(Fora for parents and teachers) ఉండేవి.
ఇప్పటివరకూ మీరెప్పుడూ చందమామలో కాపీహక్కుల నోటీసు చూసి ఉండకపోతే ఒకసారి చూడండి - విషయసూచిక పేజీలో అట్టడుగున "The stories, articles, designs contained herein are the exclusive property of the publishers. Copying or adapting them in any manner/medium will be dealt with according to law."

Scaling a new peak

(I am not a great cricket fan but found this editorial in today's The Hindu moving. -3vkrm)
Scaling a new peak
Few cricketers have combated adversity, willed themselves to heights previously thought unscalable, and courted success with the single-point focus and understated ardour that Anil Kumble has showcased in his richly decorated 16-year career. When he claimed his 500th Test wicket, against England in Mohali, he joined an exclusive group of modern-day greats: Shane Warne (659 wickets), Muttiah Muralitharan (600), Glenn McGrath (542), and Courtney Walsh (519). The first Indian in this quintet, the 35-year-old from Karnataka has time and again proved detractors wrong and emerged India's greatest ever match-winner. "I have persevered," he said after his monumental feat. "Even today, people question my bowling. They ask the same questions they asked 16 years ago ... It's a little strange." A man less gracious would have chosen the occasion to thump his chest and proclaim `I told you so.' Lesser bowlers have been treated more kindly than this warrior of iron will; through it all he has remained stoic, never one for grandstanding. Dismissed as one-dimensional and as someone who couldn't turn the ball, the leg-spinner today stands atop a peak of lonely heights in a land rich in the tradition of spin. He has meticulously stacked achievement upon breathtaking achievement, and reached a stage where no one can deny him his place among the pantheon of all-time greats.
It was fitting Muttiah Muralitharan, another spin maven from the subcontinent subjected to criticism not always fair, reached 600 the day before Kumble breached 500. The Sri Lankan is the only bowler to have taken 500 wickets in fewer Tests than Kumble. The Indian's other great rival (and good friend) of this era is the flamboyant showman Shane Warne. Though both Muralitharan and the Australian possess skills that are more readily recognisable because they are so outrageous, Kumble is no less deadly. His strike rate in wins at home is a stunning 45.2, eight balls fewer than Warne's (53.9) for the same category. Much of the criticism centred on his inability to run through sides abroad — a feat he accomplishes with such ease in India — fails to take into account that he was often used as a stock bowler to dry up runs after poor batting performances. While his overall record abroad is not as impressive as his record at home, he averages 48.6 balls between wickets in nine wins overseas — better than Warne (50.3 from 35 wins outside Australia). But, what even such impressive numbers don't reveal are his great heart, his character, and his ability to tide over physical pain thanks to his vast reserves of confidence and self-belief. In Antigua against the West Indies in 2002, he bowled with a fractured jaw; he made a stirring comeback after a shoulder injury as a more potent force improving his strike rate. His perfect ten against Pakistan in the New Delhi Test in 1999, his 24 wickets in Australia, and his series-winning efforts in Pakistan are the stuff of legend. India is unlikely to find another Kumble in the foreseeable future.

Sam Pitroda
Architect of India's telecom revolution, renowned entrepreneur, National Knowledge Commission and World Tel Limited Chairman Sam Pitroda has been chosen for the Dr. Nayudamma award for the year 2005.(A report in The Hindu on March 5, 2006)
Who is this Pitroda?
His vision and technology helped connect India and provide phone access to a billion people.... Telecom revolution started in India mainly because of the efforts of this inventor, technocrat, and social thinker, providing public access to the telecommunications. He is the man who brought in the revolution in the last two decades of the 20th century. The ubiquitous bright yellow STD PCO boxes are a manifestation of his efforts.
He was also instrumental in computerizing railway reservation system in 1980’s. It is interesting to know that Sam Pitroda first used a telephone only after moving to the US to study electrical engineering! . "Since the fascination of that first call, my dream was to set up small, rural exchanges and connect my country," says Sam.
The biggest virtue of Sam Pitroda is that he has a definite vision to use technology for the benefit and betterment of society. He battled the conventional thought that questioned the need of telecom for impoverished people He made the case that telecommunications – along with substantial food, clean water, and shelter – were a fundamental component in the process of modernisation. By introducing small, rural exchanges to India, Sam Pitroda has brought telephones to some of the world's previously isolated regions. In the field of telecom, Sam's emphasis was on accessibility rather than density.
Pitroda’s tenacity helped create the concept and technology behind the network of ‘STD/PCO’ phone booths across the country, in every village. This model is unique in the world, unparalleled to this day. The basic technology behind this network was simple and cheap. Created by Pitroda’s team at the Center for Development of Telematics, which he founded in 1984, it was a device that displayed the phone call cost and generated an instant bill at the user’s end, instead of at the telephone exchange. In revolutionizing the state of telecom in India, he also created a model for other developing nations.
The key contribution was the RAX, or rural automatic exchange—small, cheap and robust phone switches that helped take telephony to rural India, forming its telecom backbone.
Along the way, he also notched up over 50 patents, for digital switching, synchronization, tone generation, tone receiving and conferencing.
Background
Satyanarayan Gangarm Pitroda, better known as Sam Pitroda was born in Titlagarh, Orissa, India. Sam Pitroda did his schooling at Anand Vallabh Vidyalaya in Gujarat and Masters in Physics and Electronics in Baroda. In the year1964, Sam Pitroda went to the US and did his Masters in Electrical Engineering in Chicago. Thereafter he worked at GTE and formed Wescom Switching, Inc. In the year 1984, Sam Pitroda returned to India and founded the Center for Development of Telematics (CDAC) and later He worked closely with Rajiv Gandhi, as the Chief Technology Adviser to the Prime Minister. In 1989, he was elected first chairman of India's telecom commission.
Currently, Mr. Pitroda is the Chairman and CEO of World-Tel Limited, an International Telecom Union (ITU) initiative, founded by him in 1995 to help develop telecom infrastructure in less developed countries. He is also the Chairman and Founder of Sevend high-technology. He is also adviser to Kofi Annan on the ICT Advisory Committee. Sam Pitroda is also the founding Chairman of a non-profit Foundation for' Revitalization of Local Health Traditions in India.
Recipient of India’s National Citizen’s Award for work on telecom from the Prime Minister of India, Sam was also awarded the IIT Alumni Medal and the International Distinguished Leadership Award.
C-Sam Inc, a telecom solutions company promoted by Sam Pitroda, has set up its first India development centre with 40 professionals. The company has offices and development centres in the UK and the US.
He advocates the freedom of thought and developing free and inquisitive mind. This is what he says is the seed to Innovation. “Break the rules think out of the box and always look out for problems to solve” This has been his aim in life. But one thing that he emphasizes on is not only to innovate but also take credit for it. This credit comes in the form of patents and royalties . The credibility & the desire of a person increases when he gets credit for his innovation. Dr Pitroda hates any and all kinds of infirmity and he was quite coherent about it, when he remarked at the ridiculous concept of wearing a tie with a shirt to exude a sense of formality.
He says: “Dare to Dream, Follow the Dream, make the dream a reality and don’t forget to patent your reality”
Now Mr. Pitroda lives in Chicago, Illinois with his wife Anu, son Salil and daughter Rajal.

Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky was recently voted as the world’s greatest living intellectual defeating great scientists like Stephen Hawking. He is basically a linguist but has done yeoman service to the information revolution because it was his pathbreaking study of grammars of natural languages of the world that led to the development of grammars for computer languages. He classified grammars of languages into 4 types and this classification is known as Chomsky hierarchy.

Avram Noam Chomsky (born December 7, 1928) is the Institute Professor Emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Chomsky is credited with the creation of the theory of generative grammar, often considered the most significant contribution to the field of theoretical linguistics of the 20th century. He also helped spark the cognitive revolution in psychology through his review of B. F. Skinner's Verbal Behavior, which challenged the behaviorist approach to the study of mind and language dominant in the 1950s. His naturalistic approach to the study of language has also affected the philosophy of language and mind (see Harman, Fodor). He is also credited with the establishment of the so-called Chomsky hierarchy, a classification of formal languages in terms of their generative power.Along with his linguistics work, Chomsky is also widely known for his political activism, and for his criticism of the foreign policy of the United States and other governments. Chomsky describes himself as a libertarian socialist, a sympathizer of anarcho-syndicalism, and is often considered to be a key intellectual figure within the left wing of American politics.According to the Arts and Humanities Citation Index, between 1980 and 1992 Chomsky was cited as a source more often than any living scholar, and the eighth most cited source overall.
Chomsky hierarchy
The Chomsky hierarchy is a containment hierarchy of classes of formal grammars that generate formal languages. This hierarchy of these grammars which are also called phrase structure grammars was described by Noam Chomsky in 1956 .
Formal grammars
A formal grammar consists of a finite set of terminal symbols (the letters of the words in the formal language), a finite set of nonterminal symbols, a finite set of production rules with a left- and a right-hand side consisting of a word of these symbols, and a start symbol. A rule may be applied to a word by replacing the left-hand side by the right-hand side. A derivation is a sequence of rule applications. Such a grammar defines the formal language of all words consisting solely of terminal symbols that can be reached by a derivation from the start symbol.
Nonterminals are usually represented by uppercase letters, terminals by lowercase letters, and the start symbol by S. For example, the grammar with terminals {a,b}, nonterminals {S,A,B}, production rules
S → ABS
S → ε (where ε is the empty string)
BA → AB
BS → b
Bb → bb
Ab → ab
Aa → aa
and start symbol S, defines the language of all words of the form anbn (i.e. n copies of a followed by n copies of b). The following is a simpler grammar that defines a similar language: Terminals {p,q}, Nonterminals {S}, Start symbol S, Production rules
S → pSq
S → ε
See formal grammar for a more elaborate explanation.
The hierarchy
The Chomsky hierarchy consists of the following levels:
· Type-0 grammars (unrestricted grammars) include all formal grammars. They generate exactly all languages that can be recognized by a Turing machine. These languages are also known as the recursively enumerable languages. Note that this is different from the recursive languages which can be decided by an always halting Turing machine.
· Type-1 grammars (context-sensitive grammars) generate the context-sensitive languages. These grammars have rules of the form with A a nonterminal and α, β and γ strings of terminals and nonterminals. The strings α and β may be empty, but γ must be nonempty. The rule is allowed if S does not appear on the right side of any rule. The languages described by these grammars are exactly all languages that can be recognized by a non-deterministic Turing machine whose tape is bounded by a constant times the length of the input.
· Type-2 grammars (context-free grammars) generate the context-free languages. These are defined by rules of the form with A a nonterminal and γ a string of terminals and nonterminals. These languages are exactly all languages that can be recognized by a non-deterministic pushdown automaton. Context free languages are the theoretical basis for the syntax of most programming languages.
· Type-3 grammars (regular grammars) generate the regular languages. Such a grammar restricts its rules to a single nonterminal on the left-hand side and a right-hand side consisting of a single terminal, possibly followed (or preceded, but not both in the same grammar) by a single nonterminal. The rule is also here allowed if S does not appear on the right side of any rule. These languages are exactly all languages that can be decided by a finite state automaton. Additionally, this family of formal languages can be obtained by regular expressions. Regular languages are commonly used to define search patterns and the lexical structure of programming languages.
Note that the set of grammars corresponding to recursive languages is not a member of this hierarchy.
Every regular language is context-free, every context-free language is context-sensitive and every context-sensitive language is recursive and every recursive language is recursively enumerable. These are all proper inclusions, meaning that there exist recursively enumerable languages which are not recursive, recursive languages that are not context-sensitive, context-sensitive languages which are not context-free and context-free languages which are not regular.
The following table summarizes each of Chomsky's four types of grammars, the class of languages it generates, the type of automaton that recognizes it, and the form its rules must have.
